That’s done with - onto the next thing

grandbeach2010-1

The Grand Beach race is up next. After much hemming and hawing we have finally decided on a course and it will include the rock garden. The race bible will be updated to reflect this.

Report from the Viewpoint of the Organizer

This is one that I did not get to race so not much perspective from the viewpoint - that will come later and from others.

I don’t know if you could have hoped for anything better as an organizer, community buy-in and contributions, a great venue, an even better day, and fun had by all.

b-and-b

We arrived on Saturday night to the only accommodations in Bruxelles, the Carelsfield Inn, a delightful little bed and breakfast.

The beauty of this event was the participation of the community, they spared no expense and bought into the fun of the event. They decorated the hall…

And made sure that racers were treated right.

The following day Ian, David, and I went out to set up the course. We set up tents, put down cones, named the hills, and made sure everything was ready.

Registration started around 10:30 and the racers rolled in.

After that, we staged for the race and waited for church to get out - we had to do this because the local priest, Father Mackenzie, was asked to bless the race; a few words of wisdom, a small prayer, and a blessing (including a sprinkling of water on the riders) and they were off following the ceremonial start of the race by Louise Carels, proprietor of the Carelsfield Inn, maker of the food, and general host of Bruxelles. Here is the start of the Cat 4’s.

Racers found the course challenging and fun, some more fun than others if you managed to find your self with a flat, leaving you to ride the course and not race so much.

The Cat 3 finish was exciting, with Daniel N winning the sprint

Following the race it was back to the community hall for Belgian beer stew, awards and show by the Belgian dancers.

Wednesday we made good on Lindsay’s Spring Cleaning project, or at leas half it. Here is how Tommy describes it…

Geez you missed a Great time! Kinda like doing a couple hours of community service. Lindsay Ian John Vern Danny me and  a very dead Bambi. I tried to get Lindsay to put that dead deer in the back of his van, but he wasn’t keen., and Scot was none too happy when I filled his dumpster behind the store. Kiss my discount goodbye! (He needs a bigger one. Dumpster that is…..)
